and Herbs
by
Yanling Lee Johnson
Bring Balance to Your Life with Qigong!
Stop... Breathe deeply... When was the last time you gave
yourself permission to relax, to focus only on yourself, to
truly enjoy your body? Although there are so many demands on
your time and energy, you cannot forget to take care of
yourself: physically, spiritually, and emotionally. Qigong
is the simple and natural way to ensure that these needs are
met. Combining gentle movements with centuries-old
meditation techniques, Qigong is the perfect holistic
fitness practice for the busy woman who has only a few
minutes to herself in the car, at lunch, or just before
falling asleep at night. Yanling Lee Johnson, a survivor of
China's Cultural Revolution and a longtime Qigong healer and

Deborah Davis
Daoist Learning, A Secret Skill of the PalaceThis is the
most understandable workbook of qigong exercises that I have
come across. Deborah Davis covers the basics in simple terms

Immortal Sisters: Secret Teachings of Taoist Women
by
Thomas Cleary
Immortal Sisters presents life stories and teachings
of distinguished female Taoist adepts who lived from the
third to twelfth centuries. Among them is the poet and
mystic Sun Bu-er, who passed into folklore as one of the
famous Seven Immortals and appears as a character in
countless popular novels of China. These accomplished women,
renowned in their own day and in history, represent a
uniquely female heritage of spiritual mastery. Through
poems, stories, teachings, and commentaries, Immortal
Sisters sheds light on the spiritual methods taught and
practiced by these women and illustrates the importance of
the feminine in Taoism.(Paperback)

The Sexual
Teachings of the White Tigress
by
Hsi Lai
Taoist researcher and lecturer Hsi Lai
(which means "Westerner" and is quite possibly a pseudonym)
claims to summarize the contents of a 1748 manual for "White
Tigresses," an ancient, secret Taoist-Tantra tradition of
women who undertake disciplined sexual and spiritual
practices to retain youth and beauty, realize feminine
potential, and become "immortal" able to retain
consciousness after death. In this tradition, a woman
rejuvenates herself physically and spiritually by absorbing
energies and essences from sexual stimulation and from
fellatio of many men. The exercises, practices, and
quotations from the manual are fascinating, if likely to
appeal to relatively few. Hsi Lai reports that the manual
also includes the full texts of several lost Taoist sex
manuals (documented in other Chinese sexology works).
Fortunately, he plans to publish further books based on the
1748 manual. Unfortunately, his attempted justifications of
White Tigress practices in terms of modern biology and
medicine are questionable and not backed up by references.
This volume supplements the many male- and couple-oriented
Taoist and Tantra sexuality works already on the market and
is recommended for academic collections in Asian studies,
sexology, anthropology, and the occult.

Art of
the Bedchamber: The Chinese Sexual Yoga Classics Including
Women's Solo Meditation Texts
by
Douglas Wile
This is a compendium of translations
of over 20 classic Chinese texts on Taoist esoteric sexual
practice. For those with this particular interest, I highly
recommend it. There's no other book like it.
This is not a `new-age
relationships' book, nor a `light-reading sex-tips' book;
it's a scholarly and faithful set of translations of Taoist
texts originating from the second century B.C. through the
early 1700's.
These might be rather heady for the beginner, but if
you've studied alchemical Taoism (especially the sexual
aspect) from more modern sources - and would like to peruse
some of the classics (from the 1000's of years that the
Chinese have been studying this stuff), then this is THE
book. It's extremely well written; the introduction alone is
worth the price of the book.

Healing Love through the Tao: Cultivating Female Sexual
Energy
by
Mantak Chia
For thousands of years the sexual principles and techniques
presented here were taught by Taoist masters in secret only
to a small number of people (sworn to silence), in the royal
courts and esoteric circles of China. This is the first book
to make this ancient knowledge available to the West.
The foundation of healing love is the cultivation,
transformation, and circulation of sexual energy, known as
jing. Jing energy is creative, generative energy
that is vital for the development of
chi (vital
life-force energy) and shen (spiritual energy),
which enables higher practices of spiritual development.
Jing is produced in the sexual organs, and it is energy
women lose continually through menstruation and child
bearing. Mantak Chia teaches powerful techniques developed
by Taoist masters for the conservation of jing and how it is
used to revitalize women's physical, mental, and spiritual
well-being. Among the many benefits conferred by these
practices are a reduction in the discomfort caused by
menstruation and the ability to attain full-body orgasm.(Paperback)
